Linux: getting started – sort of

Reading Time: 2 minutes

When I first installed Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic Beaver), I honestly didn’t know what I was getting myself into.

I’ve been running Ubuntu a little over 3 months now and have to say, I’ve grown a liking to it. I have it installed on a separate hard drive so I can easily switch between that and my Windows drive as I please, without dealing with GRUB and Windows accidentally corrupting it due to an update (from my understanding, if Linux is installed correctly, there’s less of a chance for this happening, but I still don’t trust Windows and their updates as of lately).
I digress.

The reason why I switched over to Linux was because for work, I already use a Macbook and quite like the flexibility it gives me. I work with Linux servers and use Git quite often and because of this, I don’t want to fuss with Linux Subsystem on Windows when I’m not at work, or have to use powershell or command prompt if I’m writing Python.
At the same time, I realize there are tools that exist, and that I use, like JetBrain’s PyCharm which is great, but the implementation of git and PyCharm on Ubuntu is much more streamlined and just overall works better

In addition to using Git, I also no longer play games like I used to. I started playing video games at the ripe age of 5 or so? Put it this way, my first gaming console was an SNES with Zelda: A Link To The Past and I was hooked on gaming ever since.
I’m not going to reveal the age I am now, but let’s just say others my age are into gaming and have different priorities than I do. Now, I’m not judging them for it either, but again, I don’t see how a person at my age could become famous by gaming. I may return to gaming periodically throughout the coming years, but it was fun while it lasted.

I started this post because I realized I should write something about this experience already. I’m on my computer a lot anyways and I frequently work with WordPress so I said, why not?
